Kuwait has entered the record books with the largest fireworks display ever which marked the 50th anniversary of the Gulf state’s constitution.

During the show held on Saturday evening (10) in the capital Kuwait City, 77,282 fireworks worth US dollars 15 million were launched over a period of one hour.

The feat has secured the country a place in the Guinness Book of World records.

Thousands of citizens and expatriates had gathered to the coastal end of Arabian Gulf road where the one hour show was organized, which included fireworks, laser show, kites and tableaux at sea.

Before the festivities Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah pledged the government's continuing commitment to democracy and made a plea for national unity as the wealthy Gulf state struggles with a political crisis.
