Police today (14) seized 3kg of marijuana being transported in a bus at Kobeigane, Kotawehera. A Buddhist monk has been arrested under suspicion in connection to the transporting of the illicit drugs, Kotawehera Police said.
The ganja parcel was discovered by police officers upon inspection of the bus at around 12.30pm.
Preliminary investigations had revealed that the monk in question, of a temple in Panduwasnuwara, had been involved transporting marijuana on several previous occasions.
Rizana’s parents fly to Saudi Arabia to meet their daughter
Parents of Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek who was handed the death sentence are to travel to
Saudi Arabia today to see their daughter.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia stated that a group of Government Representatives will also join her parents on the visit.
The group of Government officials include the Chairman of the Bureau of Foreign Employment Kingsley Ranawaka and Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Tissanga Wijeratne.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia noted that tomorrow the group will visit the prison where Rizana is being held.
A high-ranking official at the Embassy told Newsfirst that another group of representatives including Governor of the Western Province Alavi Mawulana is due to visit Saudi Arbaia on the 16th. |
